CS2 VACNet Labeling Portal: How Valve's Overwatch Successor Works

Valve launched the VACNet Labeling Portal in August 2026 as a closed test. It is the spiritual successor to the CS:GO Overwatch system, but with a key difference: reviewers do not issue bans. Instead, they label suspicious gameplay clips to train future VACNet models.[1]

What the Portal Does

Selected players watch short gameplay clips of suspected cheaters through a browser interface. They label behavior such as aim assistance, wallhacks, auto-bhop, or botting. Valve states that "the player you are watching will not be directly affected by your verdict. Rather, labels may be used to train future VACNet models."[1]

The system is browser-based rather than the full in-game Overwatch experience CS players remember. Valve has not publicly explained the invitation requirements or why they chose a browser-based approach.[1]

How It Differs from Overwatch

In CS:GO, Overwatch investigators could directly ban cheaters. The VACNet Labeling Portal only collects training data. Reviewers cannot punish players themselves. The portal also expects reviewers to select "Uncertain" often, and warns that clip selection is not a representative sample of gameplay.[1]

VACNet 3.0 and the Broader Anti-Cheat Landscape

Since August 2024, Valve has been testing VACNet 3.0, an AI-powered system designed to detect cheaters in real time. The system uses a bot that connects to players exhibiting suspicious behavior. If the activity continues, the player receives a temporary 24-hour ban within five rounds, which reduces their trust factor.[2]

VACNet 3.0 focuses on obvious cheats like spinbots, raid hacks, and AI assistance. Wallhacks remain harder to detect. The combination of VACNet 3.0 and the Labeling Portal represents Valve's current approach to maintaining competitive integrity in CS2.[2]

How to Get Access

Access is invite-only. Valve has not stated how they choose players. If you or a friend have access, you need to complete at least 100 cases to invite others. The official portal is at counter-strike.net/vacnet.[1]
