CS2 Crosshair Settings: How to Find and Share Your Crosshair Code

The crosshair is the most personal setting in CS2. It affects how you aim, how you spray, and how you hold angles. Since the September 2026 update, Valve changed how crosshairs work. The old scale-based system is gone. Crosshairs now use real pixels, and the share code format has changed. If your old code stopped working, this guide explains why and how to fix it.

What Changed in September 2026

Valve released the Rush Hour update on September 22, 2026. It overhauled the crosshair system. The main changes:
  • Crosshair sizes are now measured in pixels, not an arbitrary scale
  • The settings moved to a new Crosshair/Scopes tab
  • There are nine crosshair styles instead of six
  • The default crosshair is now called Dynamic Quad
  • Every crosshair code created before September 22 is invalid
The old

Code: Select all

cl_crosshairsize
,

Code: Select all

cl_crosshairgap
, and

Code: Select all

cl_crosshairthickness
commands were replaced by

Code: Select all

cl_crosshair_length
,

Code: Select all

cl_crosshair_gap
, and

Code: Select all

cl_crosshair_thickness
. If your autoexec still sets the old commands, the game silently skips them.

How to Import a Crosshair Code

Open Settings, then Game, then Crosshair. Click the Share or Import icon next to the crosshair preview. Paste the full code including the

Code: Select all

CS
prefix and confirm. The preview updates immediately.

If you prefer the console, one command does the same thing:

Code: Select all

apply_crosshair_code CSxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
You can bind this to a key to switch between crosshairs:

Code: Select all

bind kp_1 "apply_crosshair_code CSxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"
How to Export Your Crosshair

In the same Crosshair settings menu, click Share. Your current crosshair code is copied to the clipboard. Paste it anywhere: Discord, forums, a text file. The code is just text.

Before importing someone else's crosshair, export your own first. Imports overwrite your active crosshair.

Why Old Codes Stopped Working

The old

Code: Select all

CSGO-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx
format stored crosshair sizes on an arbitrary scale that the game converted to pixels based on your screen height. The new system uses real pixels directly. Converting an old code requires assuming a resolution, and some values can land one pixel off.

Valve did not ship a converter. Community tools like csgo-sharecode (a Node.js library) can read the old formats and write the new one. The conversion is approximate. After converting, check the preview and nudge Gap or Length by one if it looks slightly different.

Current Console Commands
  • Code: Select all

    cl_crosshair_style
    - The style (0 to 8)
  • Code: Select all

    cl_crosshair_length
    - Length of each line in pixels (0 to 255)
  • Code: Select all

    cl_crosshair_thickness
    - Line thickness in pixels (0 to 31)
  • Code: Select all

    cl_crosshair_gap
    - Distance from center to each line in pixels (0 to 128)
  • Code: Select all

    cl_crosshairdot
    - Center dot on (1) or off (0)
  • Code: Select all

    cl_crosshaircolor_r / _g / _b / _a
    - Crosshair color and opacity
  • Code: Select all

    cl_crosshair_drawoutline
    - Outline: 0 off, 1 full, 2 half
  • Code: Select all

    cl_crosshair_dynamic_spread_limit
    - How far dynamic styles expand
  • Code: Select all

    cl_crosshair_recoil
    - Makes the crosshair follow recoil
Finding a Crosshair That Works for You

Most professional players use a small static cross with an outline. Thickness 1, length 2 to 6, and gap 0 to 3 covers almost the entire pro scene. The new Crosshair/Scopes tab previews your crosshair on real map backgrounds like Mirage, Dust2, and Inferno. You can check whether your crosshair survives Nuke's ceiling lights before you find out mid-clutch.

If you import a pro's crosshair and it feels wrong, the issue is usually resolution. A crosshair tuned on 1280x960 stretched looks chunkier than the same code on 1920x1080 native. Adjust size and thickness to taste.
