CS2 Map Pool and Competitive Maps for 2026
============================================
Official news: Anubis replaces Train in the Active Duty map pool
Premier Season 4 brought the most significant map pool change of 2026. On January 22, Valve announced that Anubis would replace Train in the CS2 Active Duty map pool, completing the rotation that began when Train was removed from the pool at the start of the season. The full Active Duty pool now consists of: Anubis, Dust 2, Inferno, Mirage, Nuke, Ancient, and Office.
Competitive map pool rotations by game mode
Premier (Active Duty)
The seven-map Active Duty pool is used for Premier Season 4. Map veto order follows standard best-of-3 and best-of-5 procedures, with the defending map kept in place unless both teams agree to a swap. Anubis's return has been the most talked-about change, as it was last removed from the pool just six months prior.
Competitive, Casual, Deathmatch, Wingman, and Arms Race
These game modes each use separate map rotations that are independent of the Premier Active Duty pool. Casual and Deathmatch typically rotate through a subset of the seven Active Duty maps, while Wingman and Arms Race have their own fixed pools that change less frequently. Players switching between modes should note that map knowledge does not always transfer directly.
Map-specific notes for 2026
Anubis: A jungle-themed map that received significant visual updates in Source 2. Key areas include mid control, banana, and alternate routes through jungle. The map's verticality and multiple sightlines make it distinct from the more open layouts of Dust 2 or Mirage.
Inferno: Long remains a critical choke point, while Banana control continues to dictate mid-round flow. Recent updates have adjusted smoke grenade placements at A site.
Mirage: A site apartments and CT flash spots remain popular strategic positions. B site execution through connector or quad is still the most reliable setup for competitive play.
Nuke: Heaven and Hell control remain the primary objectives for both teams. The vertical layout means utility usage is more critical than on flat maps.
Ancient: As the newest map in the pool, still being studied for optimal positioning. Jungle control and mid-to-A/B rotations are key strategic areas.
Office: A rare holdover from earlier CS:GO days. Long and Short corridors favor aggressive pushes, and mid control is often decided by early round utility trades.
How the map pool affects competitive play
Map familiarity gives teams an edge in preparation, but the rotating pool ensures no single map dominates the entire season. Teams that adapt quickly to new map pools, like those that incorporated Anubis strategies early, have shown better results in Premier matches. The reserve pool, which includes maps like Cache and Italy, provides additional options for lower-tier events and regional leagues.
