Agents are the player character models that replace the default Counter-Terrorist and Terrorist appearance. Valve introduced them with Operation Shattered Web in 2019 and added more in later operations. They let you play as a named character with its own look and voice lines instead of the stock model. [1]
Cosmetic only
Agents do not change hitboxes and they do not give a competitive advantage. The guide is blunt about this: hitboxes stay standardised regardless of which model you pick. Some players still feel that certain models blend into specific maps better or worse, which is why a handful of agents are mildly controversial in competitive play, but that is a perception about visibility rather than a mechanical difference. [1]
The rarity ladder
Agents come in tiers, and the tier drives both scarcity and price. [1]
- Distinguished (blue) is the entry tier. These are the common agents.
- Superior (purple) sits above it. Special Agent Ava from the FBI is the example the guide names.
- Master (gold) is the top tier. Sir Bloody Miami Darryl, The Doctor Romanov, and Cmdr. Mae 'Dead Cold' Jamison are the three the guide calls out.
- Agents have no StatTrak versions.
The patch slot
Many agents, and most of the Superior and Master ones, carry a patch slot. You apply an agent patch there to put a team logo, an event emblem, or another design on the character model. It is a small customisation layer on top of the model itself. [1]
