Yes, you can use a CS2 skin while it is listed for sale on the Steam Community Market.[1] The skin stays in your inventory and can remain equipped, but you cannot consume or modify it while the listing is active.

What happens when you list a CS2 skin?

Listing an eligible CS2 item no longer makes it unavailable for normal use. Valve states that listed items remain in your inventory, and a listed weapon can be equipped in your loadout.[1]

This means you do not have to cancel a listing merely because you want to play with the skin. Its active Market listing and its loadout use can coexist until the item is purchased or you cancel the listing.[1]

The important restriction is that a listed item cannot be consumed or modified. If the action would change the item or use it up, remove the Market listing before attempting it.[1]

How to list an eligible CS2 item

Steam provides two starting points for selling an eligible item:[2]
  1. Open the Steam Community Market homepage and begin the selling process there.[2]
  2. Open your Steam inventory, select the eligible item, and choose the option to sell it.[2]
Only items eligible for sale appear when you select an item to list on the Community Market. If a particular skin does not appear, check the item description in your Steam inventory for its marketability information.[2]

How to cancel an active listing

You can cancel a listing as long as the item has not been purchased:[2]
  1. Open the Steam Community Market homepage while signed into the correct account.[2]
  2. Find your current listings at the top of the page.[2]
  3. Locate the CS2 item you want to withdraw.[2]
  4. Select Remove beside that listing.[2]
Removing the listing ends the sale offer. Valve also states generally that CS2 Market listings can be canceled at any time, subject to the item not already having been purchased.[2]

The purchase cutoff matters

A listing can be removed before another user purchases the item. Once the Community Market transaction is completed, however, Steam says the purchase is final and cannot be reversed or refunded through the Market.[2]

If you are uncertain whether you still want to sell a skin, cancel the listing before experimenting with item changes or waiting for a buyer. For more guides and community material, you can also check sourced Counter-Strike coverage on TOP OF GAMES.[2]

Can I equip a listed CS2 skin in my loadout?

Yes. Valve specifically identifies equipping a listed weapon in a loadout as an allowed use while the item remains listed on the Steam Community Market.[1]

Can I modify a CS2 skin while it is listed?

No. Valve states that an item cannot be consumed or modified while its Market listing is active. Cancel the listing first if you need to perform an action that changes the item.[1]

Can I cancel the listing after someone buys the skin?

No. You can remove a listing before purchase by selecting Remove on the Community Market homepage, but Steam treats a completed Market transaction as final.[2]
