Counter-Strike 2 runs two ranking systems at the same time: Competitive mode uses the classic 18 rank badges from Silver I to Global Elite, one per map. Premier mode replaces badges with a single number called CS Rating. This guide covers where the player base actually sits in both systems and what the distribution curve tells us about the game.
Competitive Rank Distribution
The Competitive rank distribution is bell-shaped. The most common rank is Gold Nova III at about 9.05% of players. The full breakdown from lowest to highest:
- Silver I: 3.9%
- Silver II: 4.23%
- Silver III: 4.37%
- Silver IV: 5.21%
- Silver Elite: 6.44%
- Silver Elite Master: 7.78%
- Gold Nova I: 8.76%
- Gold Nova II: 8.79%
- Gold Nova III: 9.05%
- Gold Nova Master: 8.08%
- Master Guardian I: 7.55%
- Master Guardian II: around 7%
- Master Guardian Elite: around 6%
- Distinguished Master Guardian: around 5%
- Legendary Eagle: around 4%
- Legendary Eagle Master: around 3%
- Supreme Master First Class: around 2%
- Global Elite: under 1%
Premier CS Rating Distribution
Premier mode uses a numeric CS Rating instead of badges. The rating is split into seven color-coded brackets:
- Common (Grey): 0 to 4,999
- Uncommon (Light Blue): 5,000 to 9,999
- Rare (Blue): 10,000 to 14,999
- Mythical (Purple): 15,000 to 19,999
- Legendary (Pink): 20,000 to 24,999
- Ancient (Red): 25,000 to 29,999
- Unusual (Yellow): 30,000+
What the Curve Tells Us
The bell shape means most players are genuinely average. If you are Gold Nova or Master Guardian, you are near the median. The thin tails at both ends show that very new players and very strong players are both rare in matchmaking. The Premier distribution is even more compressed at the top, which makes a Legendary or Ancient rating a clearer signal of elite skill than Global Elite in Competitive.
It is also worth noting that these numbers come from third-party tracking services, not from Valve. The data is based on players who use external stat sites, which means it skews toward more engaged players. The true distribution including casuals who never visit a stats site would likely be wider at the bottom.
