CS2 Map Pool and Competitive Maps for 2026

Counter-Strike 2 competitive map pool rotates regularly to keep the competitive scene fresh. The active map pool for 2026 includes seven maps that appear in Premier mode match selections and major tournaments.

Active Maps

Dust II — The classic counter-terrorist versus terrorist map. Long A, Short A, and B sites define most rounds. Valve updates geometry and lighting periodically to maintain balance.

Mirage — Mid control is the key objective. A site takes through palace or apartments, B site takes through scaffold or jungle. Many professional strats rely on utility placement at Mid.

Inferno — Banana control dictates early round flow. CTs defend library and top mid, Ts execute banana split or middle drop. Paradise and bombsite B round out the map.

Overpass — Connector and monster are central chokepoints. A site takes through bathrooms or long A, B site takes through short A or water.

Nuke — Vertical play is the distinguishing feature. CTs hold heaven and backyard, Ts execute rope or basement splits. Upper and lower bomb sites require coordinated utility.

Ancient — Newer addition to the competitive pool. Long A main hall and jungle provide multiple attack angles. Jaguar and market offer alternative routes.

Cache — Mid control remains pivotal. A site takes through vents or computer, B site takes through market or water. Some server versions have been updated with geometry tweaks.

Map Selection Process

Premier mode uses a blind pick system. Team 1 picks one map, Team 2 picks two maps, Team 1 picks a final map, and one of the four maps is randomly selected for the match to begin. This system gives both teams opportunities to play maps they have prepared while maintaining unpredictability.

Map-Specific Tips

Dust II: Controlling Long A with smoke and molotov placements can delay CT rotations. Mid player position (short or long) dictates early round economy.

Mirage: Player position at Mid CT determines whether Ts attack A or B. Palace smokes and jungle molotovs are common retake tools.

Inferno: Banana player position is the first decision Ts make. CTs who hold top mid can rotate to A site quickly if banana falls.

Overpass: Monster player control decides whether Ts push A short or B water. Bathroom smokes help CTs retake A site after execution.

Nuke: Rope player position and backyard control determine Ts' early execute path. Heaven control is critical for CTs defending Rotate.

Ancient: Market and jungle control provide Ts with alternative A site executions. Long A main hall geometry favors CTs who understand wallbang positions.

Cache: Vent and computer execution options give Ts flexibility. Mid player position often decides whether A or B takes priority in a given round.

Map Updates in 2026

Several maps have received geometry and lighting updates throughout the year based on competitive feedback. Valve adjusts sightlines, bombsite geometry, and mid-area traffic to reduce defensive advantages or encourage specific playstyles. Players should verify the current map version before major matches, as subtle changes can affect established strategies.
