CS2 agents: what they are, the rarity tiers, the patch slot, and the October 2026 glove change

Agents are the player character models that replace the default Counter-Terrorist and Terrorist appearance. Valve introduced them with Operation Shattered Web in 2019 and added more in later operations. They let you play as a named character with its own look and voice lines instead of the stock model. [1]

Cosmetic only

Agents do not change hitboxes and they do not give a competitive advantage. The guide is blunt about this: hitboxes stay standardised regardless of which model you pick. Some players still feel that certain models blend into specific maps better or worse, which is why a handful of agents are mildly controversial in competitive play, but that is a perception about visibility rather than a mechanical difference. [1]

The rarity ladder

Agents come in tiers, and the tier drives both scarcity and price. [1]
  • Distinguished (blue) is the entry tier. These are the common agents.
  • Superior (purple) sits above it. Special Agent Ava from the FBI is the example the guide names.
  • Master (gold) is the top tier. Sir Bloody Miami Darryl, The Doctor Romanov, and Cmdr. Mae 'Dead Cold' Jamison are the three the guide calls out.
  • Agents have no StatTrak versions.
The guide prices Distinguished agents in the low single digits, Superior in the eight to twenty dollar range, and Master between roughly fifteen and sixty dollars, depending on demand. Earlier operation-exclusive agents have become scarcer over time, which is what supports their prices among collectors. Those are market snapshots, not fixed values. [1]

The patch slot

Many agents, and most of the Superior and Master ones, carry a patch slot. You apply an agent patch there to put a team logo, an event emblem, or another design on the character model. It is a small customisation layer on top of the model itself. [1]

The October 2026 change

Valve's October 2 update changed how agents interact with gloves. Agents now wear their equipped gloves during the photobooth photography sessions and in the buy menu. [2]

Other client changes from the same two weeks
  • October 14: the demo and replay viewer gained a progress bar for demo downloads, click-and-drag camera controls, free and chase camera usable during a paused demo, and fixes for seeking to a different position in a demo file. [2]
  • October 14: round backup files now require the game server startup flag "-allow_round_backup_files". [2]
  • October 14: AUG reload animations for standing and crouch reloads were updated to match the new reload duration. [2]
  • October 8: the AUG reload time was reduced by half a second, and the sound event during a silent Desert Eagle reload was fixed. [2]
  • October 14: stability improvements for the Vulkan renderer. [2]
