CS2 October 2026 updates: the defuse kit ping icon, the workshop map manager, and the crosshair cvar whitelist

Post by ice »

Quick summary
  • Valve shipped three CS2 patches between October 2 and October 8, 2026. The single gameplay change in the set is the AUG reload time.
  • The October 2 patch added the new crosshair settings to the workshop convars whitelist and fixed grenade crosshair rendering at 3 pixel thickness.
  • The October 5 patch added play menu buttons for managing downloaded workshop maps.
  • The October 8 patch added a ping icon for dropped defuse kits.
  • The October 14 patch is a separate change set on this board and is not repeated here.

The workshop convars whitelist now includes the new crosshair settings. That whitelist decides which console variables a workshop map is allowed to set, so it is the one change in this patch that matters to anyone running a custom server or a workshop map with crosshair cvars.

Grenade crosshair rendering was fixed for the case where crosshair thickness is set to 3 pixels. Players who moved to a 3 pixel thickness in the September crosshair rework would have seen the grenade indicator draw incorrectly.

The same patch improved lighting in the Warehouse map, fixed the formatting of titles in the commend and report dialogs, and made agents wear their equipped gloves during photobooth photography sessions and in the buy menu.

October 5, 2026

The pet photobook pages now have localized text art. The play menu gained buttons for managing downloaded workshop maps, which removes the need to dig through files or reinstall when a downloaded map is broken or out of date. A set of Vulkan shader cache extension flags was adjusted as well.

A ping icon now appears for dropped defuse kits, so a kit left on the ground is visible to the team instead of only to whoever walks over it.

The AUG reload time was reduced by half a second. Valve also fixed the sound event that played during a silent reload with the Desert Eagle, and a case of buzzing soundscape sounds during demo playback. Rush maps received clipping fixes, and the patch closed with localization and stability updates.

What to check on your own setup

None of these three patches touched client side aim or movement cvars, so the settings discussed elsewhere on this board still apply. The one thing worth a look is your crosshair thickness. If you use a 3 pixel thickness, the grenade indicator now renders correctly where it previously did not.
