CS2 weapon accuracy overlay: weapon_debug_spread_show, weapon_debug_spread_gap, and the debug circle command

Post by ice »

Quick summary
  • CS2 ships two client cvars that draw your weapon's real inaccuracy on screen. weapon_debug_spread_show draws a box around the crosshair, and cl_weapon_debug_show_accuracy draws a circle for each shot.
  • Both are cheat-flagged, so they need sv_cheats 1. That works in a private match or an offline map with bots, not on Valve official matchmaking servers.
  • Valve's command list is a snapshot from the October 2 2023 build, and the page itself notes that a command may have been hidden or removed since.
  • A build dump from October 15 2026 still lists both of those commands. It does not list weapon_debug_spread_gap.
  • Valve's page and a third-party reference disagree on the flags for weapon_debug_spread_show, so both readings are below.
What the overlay shows

The box is not a replacement crosshair. It marks the area where a bullet from your current weapon can land. It grows while you spray or move and shrinks when you stand still and let the weapon settle. If you have never measured your own spread, this is the first honest number most players get.

The commands
  • weapon_debug_spread_show 0 turns the display off. Valve lists 0 as the default.
  • weapon_debug_spread_show 1 draws a static box around the crosshair.
  • weapon_debug_spread_show 3 draws a box that resizes as you shoot, move or change stance. Valve describes 1 as "show accuracy box" and 3 as "show accuracy with dynamic crosshair".
  • weapon_debug_spread_gap carries a default of 0.67 on Valve's page. The page gives no description for it.
  • cl_weapon_debug_show_accuracy carries a default of 0 on Valve's page, with the description "Draws a circle representing the effective range with every shot".
  • cl_weapon_debug_show_accuracy_duration carries a default of 10 on Valve's page. The page gives no description for it.
  • cl_weapon_debug_print_accuracy appears in the October 2026 build dump. That dump gives no description for it.
Turning it on in a private match
  • Open the console. If nothing happens, enable the developer console in the game settings first.
  • Type sv_cheats 1.
  • Type weapon_debug_spread_show 3.
  • Type cl_weapon_debug_show_accuracy 1.
  • Fire a few rounds. The box should appear around the crosshair and grow as you spray. The circle draws with each shot.
Two references disagree on the flags

Valve's list marks weapon_debug_spread_show with the flags cl, cheat and per_user. Total CS's command reference for the same command states that sv_cheats is required. Those are not the same claim. Valve's page does not define what its own flags mean, so the flags are quoted here exactly as printed and nothing more is read into them. The practical outcome is identical either way: turn sv_cheats on first or the command does nothing.

How current is this

Valve's page notes it was retrieved from the October 2 2023 build, 9832, revision 8384867, and that some commands on the list may be removed or hidden by later updates. A dump of build 11133601 from October 15 2026 still lists weapon_debug_spread_show, described there as drawing the current weapon's true inaccuracy and spread radius around the crosshair, and still lists cl_weapon_debug_show_accuracy. That same dump does not contain weapon_debug_spread_gap, so treat that one as unconfirmed on current builds rather than assume it still exists.

FAQ
  • Does this work in matchmaking? No. sv_cheats is a server setting you cannot switch on for yourself on a Valve official server.
  • Is this a cheat? These are client cvars Valve ships in the game and lists in its own developer documentation. Use them offline or in a private match with cheats enabled.
  • Why does the box look bigger than my crosshair? It shows the real spread cone, which is wider than the crosshair gap on most weapons.
  • What does weapon_debug_spread_gap do? Valve lists a default of 0.67 and no description. It is absent from the October 2026 dump. The name suggests a display setting, but Valve does not say so.
  • What does cl_weapon_debug_show_accuracy_duration control? Valve lists a default of 10 and no description. The name points at how long the circle stays on screen, but Valve does not say so.
