CS2 autobuy and the buy menu: the cl_autobuy order, the buy wheel keys, and the server rules that block a buy

What this covers

The buy menu in CS2 is more than the list you scroll with the mouse. There is a command that buys for you, a set of console variables that decide what a server lets you buy, and a few keys that change how the buy wheel behaves. This post collects those from the current build dump and a community command reference, so you can tell a client setting from a server rule before you blame the wrong one.

Setting up autobuy

Code: Select all

cl_autobuy vesthelm vest m4a1 ak47 famas galilar mp7 nova defuser
`cl_autobuy` holds the order autobuy walks through when it runs. You enter weapon codes without the weapon_ prefix, separated by spaces. The default value is `vesthelm vest m4a1 ak47 famas galilar mp7 nova defuser`. Total CS gives this example:

Code: Select all

cl_autobuy ak47 m4a1 flashbang smokegrenade hegrenade incgrenade molotov
, which buys a rifle and full grenades on one command.

Once it is set, run the command on its own:

Code: Select all

autobuy
That is the whole trigger. `autobuy` takes no arguments and buys the list you stored in `cl_autobuy`.

The buy wheel keys

The radial buy wheel is bound to console commands rather than a single key:
  • +quickbuyradial, +quickgearradial and +quickgrenaderadial open the wheel for weapons, gear and grenades
  • cl_buywheel_donate_key sets the modifier key for donating: the build dump says 0 is Left Control, 1 is Left Alt and 2 is Left Shift
  • cl_buywheel_nonumberpurchasing set to 1 stops the wheel buying when you press a number key; the default is 0
  • cl_use_opens_buy_menu makes the +use key open the buy menu inside a buy zone
One disagreement worth knowing: Total CS lists cl_buywheel_donate_key as a 0 or 1 toggle with default 0 and describes it as "determines whether a specific key is set", while the build dump maps 0, 1 and 2 to Left Control, Left Alt and Left Shift. The dump is the more specific of the two.

Server rules that decide whether the buy works

These are set by the server, not by you. If one of them blocks you, no client command helps:
  • mp_buytime, how many seconds after round start players can buy items
  • mp_buy_anywhere, 0 default, 1 both teams, 2 Terrorists, 3 Counter-Terrorists
  • mp_buy_during_immunity, lets players buy while immune, ignoring buytime, with the same 0 to 3 values
  • mp_buy_allow_guns, a bitmask: pistols 1, SMGs 2, rifles 4, shotguns 8, sniper rifles 16, heavy MGs 32
  • mp_buy_allow_grenades, whether players can purchase grenades at all
  • sv_autobuyammo, enables automatic ammo purchase inside buy zones during buy periods
  • sv_sellback_enabled, determines whether players can undo purchases in the buy menu
  • cl_dm_buyrandomweapons, gives a random weapon on deathmatch spawn when set to 1, otherwise the last weapon
Next round buy menu

Four client commands hold the equipment you want to buy at the start of the next round: cl_buymenu_ct_nextround_high, cl_buymenu_ct_nextround_low, cl_buymenu_t_nextround_high and cl_buymenu_t_nextround_low. The build dump lists the names but prints no description for them.

FAQ

1. Why does autobuy not buy everything I listed? The server rules above can stop it. Check mp_buytime and mp_buy_anywhere first.
2. Do I need sv_cheats? No. Total CS lists sv_cheats as not required for autobuy, cl_autobuy and the buy wheel commands.
3. Can I change the donate key? Yes, cl_buywheel_donate_key, but read the disagreement above first.
4. Where does the dump come from? s2v.app lists 4,337 convars in build 11162119 (Oct 22 2026) and links the raw convars.txt on GitHub.
5. Is the old fandom cvar list still usable? Not as a primary source. It now returns an empty page, so this post rests on the build dump and Total CS.
