CS2 souvenir items: the Souvenir prefix, the Souvenir token, the map collections, and the Major packages

Quick summary
Souvenir is a quality applied to a limited number of weapon finishes in Counter-Strike. It is exclusive to souvenir packages, and those packages only exist for Major events. On Steam the item shows a Souvenir prefix in its name and a yellow frame with text.
The skin you receive depends on the package you open. Open a Mirage souvenir package and you get a skin from the Mirage Collection. Those collections get updated over the years, and a package keeps using the version of the collection that was current when the package was first added. The wiki uses Mirage as its example: the StarLadder Berlin 2019 Mirage package uses the Original Mirage Collection, while packages added after Operation Riptide use the 2021 Mirage Collection.
Two early packages break that rule. The DreamHack 2013 and EMS One Katowice 2014 packages do not draw from the Active Duty Group collections. They pull from a variety of collections across different maps and modes instead.
How you get one
Packages used to drop to viewers at random while a Major was running. That changed at StarLadder Berlin 2019. Since then souvenir packages come from Souvenir tokens, which you buy in the in-game store. The Container page lists souvenir packages as one of the container types, alongside weapon cases, sticker capsules, graffiti boxes, patch packs, collectable pin packs and music kits.
Stickers and the trade up rule
Souvenir skins historically carried stickers that were rare or unobtainable through any other route. That stopped at PGL Stockholm 2021, when Gold stickers became available through capsules. Gold stickers are no longer exclusive to souvenir items.
Souvenir skins cannot be used in a Trade Up Contract.
The R8 Revolver - Bone Mask and the R8 Revolver - Amber Fade are the only two skins that were added to an existing souvenir package after it launched.
